I don’t have a pen name and I’m choosing to remain anonymous for the time being but one day I just might reveal who I am – guess you’ll have to keep coming back to find out. In the meantime I hope you enjoy this personal blog for public viewing as I sort myself out through the ups and downs, zigzags, predictability and unpredictability of eating disorder recovery.
I have called this blog Other Specified Eating or Feeding Blog because as you may know there is an eating disorder diagnosis in the DSM V called Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED), which was formally called Eating Disorder Otherwise Not Specified (EDNOS). Basically, OSFED is a diagnosis given to individuals who don’t neatly fit the diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, or Binge Eating Disorder. Over the years I have at one point or another ‘fit into’ each of the aforementioned eating disorders, however I have most often resonated with, and currently resonate with, OSFED (formally EDNOS) due to the ever changing cyclical nature of my ED symptoms and weight. But I have learned that as much as diagnoses are necessary and helpful they are also bullshit. They don’t matter. What matters is how much is your eating disorder affecting your everyday life and how desperate are you for recovery.

What You Can Expect From Other Specified Feeding or Eating Blog:
This is 100% a recovery focused blog. Although I may talk about symptoms from time to time it will always be recovery focused. This blog is a safe place; for me and for you. If you ever feel like it isn’t drop me a comment. You can expect to find a realistic recovery story and some coping tools as well as things I have learned in treatment and recovery. My hope is that you find this blog helpful to your own recovery.

While in treatment we had to keep food records. I have kept these records and have hundreds of meals that meet a basic meal plan. I thought it would be fun to share them with you. I’ll write out the menus and maybe some basic recipes. I will also maybe share some thoughts/feelings I had at the time. Hopefully you find these fun and helpful. I know menu planning is stressful even at the best times of recovery, so my hope is that you can get idea’s from my #menumondays
(*keep in mind, I am not a dietitian. Although these meals do follow a basic meal plan and were designed or approved by my dietitian, they are also specific to my treatment goals/needs and may differ from yours. If you are unsure, check with your dietitian)
Mid-Week Coping Tools:
I am incredibly fortunate to live in a country/city where excellent and renown Eating Disorder treatment is available and affordable. Each week (ideally on a Tuesday or Wednesday) I will share things I learned in treatment and although it will be helpful to everyone (myself included), I have a specific hope for those who are not able to access treatment.
Here, I pick a post I felt was well written, or that people seemed to really resonate with or like and re-post it.
